New TED video from David McCandless on the power and beauty of effective data visualisation

This is a must watch video for all data fans, it includes a few cool data visualisation examples. David also talks about data being the new oil and tries to coin the new phrase of "data being the new soil" (i.e. insights and innovation spring from it), great idea I think but it comes across as a bit wanky. Anyway, awesome examples and great video!

Visible Measures: Video analytics service launched benchmarking and seeded vs. viral comparison

The online video monitoring service Visible Measures has just released some interesting new features but unfortunately they're only visible for paying customers.

Category benchmarking: Trends now automatically benchmarks campaigns against all relevant categories for demographics and distribution. For example, you can see how demographics for Evian's Live Young compare to beverage industry averages as well as campaigns using animation, humor, and music.

Seeded vs. viral Breakdowns: You can now see how much much activity for each campaign was the result of brand-driven video placements (i.e. seeded) and how much was the result of community-driven video placements (i.e. viral). Understanding the seeded vs. viral breakdown of an online video campaign is critical to understanding its overall performance.

YouTube Insights for Audience: Discover what videos different audiences and demographics like to watch

Amazing source of information to get a deeper understanding of what triggers your audience interest. Below is a sample output showing me videos that 25-34 year old males in Australia like to watch including search terms used and how well they index by category. Nice!

YouTube now showing selected video stats to all users (even if they didn't upload the video)

So far you could only see stats for videos you uploaded yourself but now there's an additional tab underneath some YouTube videos that allows everyone to see a select set of data (example video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jlacP_LcXc).
