Case study: Making Vodafone datalicious using SiteCatalyst, Test&Target and SearchCenter

All right, we've been posting for a while now and hope you like our view of the data world out there but now it's time for a little self-promotion (nevertheless interesting we think).

Have a look at the below case study outlining the Omniture implementation we did for Vodafone Australia over the past few months (we're rather proud of it) and how it enabled the company to extract some serious ROI from its web analytics platform.

“I’ve been working with SiteCatalyst for over six years, 3 years as a customer and 3 years as an employee, consulting to some of our largest customers around the world. The current Vodafone implementation of SiteCatalyst is one of the most impressive I have seen and ranks in the top 10 from my perspective. It is an amazing foundation for taking action on the data and improving online return on investment.” Adam Greco, Team Lead Business Consulting at Omniture.

New Google Website Optimizer API enables tests without JavaScript code

Exiting news on the Google Website Optimizer front! The optimisation team over at Google have launched an extension to their API that allows CMS providers to include the Website Optimizer service into their platforms, thereby enabling their customers to run tests without ever having to touch their website code (all happens on the backend, i.e. what page to serve to what visitor).

"[...] integrations allow you to create and launch Website Optimizer experiments without touching your website's code."

SmashingMagazine & Magento: Best checkout process

Have a look at the checkout process on http://www.smashingmagazine.com/ (for their book, also see below), it's one of the sleekest and best I've come across and we're pretty sure it's powered by http://www.magentocommerce.com/. I especially love the one page overview and the fact that you don't have to create an account (which is most annoying).

Clickz: marketers fail to optimize on-site media

A survey of marketing executives found that two in three allocate less than 10 cents of every marketing dollar to optimize on-site media to encourage Web site visitors to "convert" or take an action such as make a purchase or download a white paper.

Of 1,050 marketing executives surveyed, 42 percent said they are spending less than five hours per week optimizing advertising media such as search, e-mail, and display advertising, according to Omniture's Online Conversion Benchmark Survey released this week. "This may be too low, considering many companies are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars per month in advertising," the study suggests.

Astounding results and probably true for Australia as well. From experience we can say that companies in Australia still tend to focus more on the top part of the funnel (i.e. attracting cost effective traffic) rather than the bottom part (i.e. on-site conversion) even though the bottom part holds the most potential for overall conversion growth.
